"You've got to be kidding me." Fuck, was this going to be the start of her many misadventures in the game, or what?
To be fair, when she went to the east field, her only intention was to scout it. There wasn't a decent map, let alone a mini-map, in the game that she had found in her few days inside, and sitting around in an inn room doing nothing except waiting for the end didn't appeal to her whatsoever. No way to log out, so why waste time when that time was better spent trying to make progress?
Equipmentless, itemless, and skilless, her options weren't looking all that favorable at the moment. Well... she'd manage. Besides, she couldn't find anything unless she tried, right? So might as well kill two birds with one stone and wander around, while thousands of other people were too afraid to venture out.
But in her mind, she could die at any minute already. Hit by a car. Trip and break her neck. Freak accident. Struck by lightning. Shit happened, and when it hit the fan, you just kept moving, or you stunk up a place by doing nothing. Yeah, not her cup of tea to be idle for too long.
Azure was still exploring the town, so she left him a note in their inn room, promising to be back after doing a bit of exploring. And that exploring in the east field just so happened to catch the attention of a pack of wolves.
It was kind of comical, she supposed, to an outside observer. She sat crouched in the branches of a tree while the wolves watched her, waiting for her to move. Huffing, she leaned back. They'd lose aggro soon, right? ...right? MAKENAI ★ hi make them go away please thanks bye c:

There were reasons that Makenai didn't like these games very much. Of course, he'd never included "getting trapped in the game for all eternity" on that list, but it was now officially the number one reason that he didn't like this games. At all. It didn't help that he was officially stranded without his daughter, and he had no idea what was going to happen to her until he got back. Would she be okay? She didn't have anyone to take care of her. What was she going to do, without anyone to watch her? Shit.
Makenai had not done what so many others had done and holed up in the inn. No, he was going to look around and find out what was up, dammit, and figure out how to get out of here. From what he'd seen so far, the world wasn't terribly big. He'd at least discovered that fatigue didn't work the same way in this world as it did in reality.
That was good, because he was a writer. His fighting days in real life had been over for a long time.
The east field was as good an option as anywhere else to look around. A collection of wolves around a tree wasn't... normal, was it? Wolves didn't do that unless they'd, well, treed something. He followed the line of the trunk up to the branches, and-- Jesus, she looked young. What, seventeen, eighteen?
"Hey," he called, loud enough for her to hear. He was, apparently, far enough away that the wolves were totally ignoring him, and they didn't seem to care that he was talking. Maybe they were only programmed to target one thing at a time. What was that called, aggro? "How'd you manage this?" MINT★ what the hell do you expect me to do about this woman

She wished she had a better story for how it happened, besides the truth. Because the truth was damn boring. "I didn't see them," she confessed, looking annoyed. "Apparently I stood too close to one, it attracted the other two, and here I am." Too bad there hadn't been a larger wolf that chased her up the tree or something, just for a burst of creative flare. That'd make it a bit less embarrassing. Eh, not that she felt embarrassed in the first place, really.
Enough basic attacks might be able to take care of one wolf, but three? She didn't know how much health they had, how much damage they did, or anything like that, and even if she got the stranger to help out, they were outnumbered. Until she got some gear and skills, the thought of engaging in combat with only a few people didn't appeal to her.
"Hey, do you think you can find a rock, or a stick? If you can throw it away from here, it might catch their attention." Or she hoped. Sticking around in a tree was all fine and dandy for now, but eventually her legs were going to start hurting, and she'd get hungry, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Ergh. MAKENAI★ glare at them, your face is pretty scary

Sighing under his breath, Makenai looked around for a moment before he saw some rocks on the edge of the stream. Picking one up, he tossed it up and down a couple of times before examining the area. Maybe distracting them with sound would work for a minute, but...
A sheep that seemed to have wandered too far away from the flock made a much better target. He probably would have felt a lot worse about this if he hadn't known that the sheep, and indeed everything else that wasn't a player, wasn't just a big string of data and... well. No sense overthinking it.
He threw the rock as hard as he could, discovering that aim was a lot better in this game as well as he pegged the sheep in the back of the head. With an alarmed bleat, it ran off, streaking straight past the tree that the female had managed to get herself up into. The wolves, apparently distracted by the moving target, took off after the animal with barks and howls.
Satisfied, Makenai moved back over towards the tree. "You all right?" he called, squinting up. "Need help down?" MINT★ no, mean look causes pokemon to be unable to run

She should feel bad for the sheep. Really, she should, and she knew she should, but she didn't. It would just respawn if it died. Probably. Hopefully. Ugh, she needed to sit down later and give some thought to the implications of NPCs and their lives, whether animal or human or monster, because it would bug her if she didn't at least focus a bit on it. Getting comfortable with killing would be easier to do if she knew more about the world itself. When she had a controller and hit a button to kill something, it never felt like this.
"Nah, I'm good. Thanks, though. I need to learn how to..." She pushed herself away from the tree, landing with a stumble. "...do that." She shook her head, running one hand through her messy hair. Argh, it felt like her legs were going to be locked up for awhile. Her own damn fault for not noticing just how close she got to a small pack of wolves.
"Really, thanks for the help. It wasn't looking too good for me." Even though she knew he could see her name if he just took a moment to focus, she extended her hand in offering, and smirked slightly. "Name's Mint. You out exploring this area as well? I heard there's some sort of dungeon, but I'm not really equipped for it yet. Thought maybe I'd find a treasure chest, or something, around here." MAKENAI★ then bash them with your face until dead things happen

Makenai took a couple of steps back to give her room to jump down, extending his hand to accept the handshake. "Makenai," he said, returning the greeting with a nod. He was going to regret his sarcastic name choice eventually, he just knew it. Shoving his hands into the pockets of his nondescript beginner pants, he looked around. "I didn't feel like sitting around the inn. I thought that, if we were going to find a way out of here, we were going to need to start by looking around. I mean, there has to be something somewhere, right?" he asked.
Sighing, he reached up to rub the back of his head. "Unless you're planning to take an endless supply of sheep and rocks into the dungeon, I don't think that going in there is a good idea right now. If you're looking around too, maybe we should stick together for a bit. There are a lot of... bitey... things out here."
Plus, he'd seen someone earlier who had been bleeding profusely from the arm with a big red 'BLD' next to their name. It didn't look pleasant and it wasn't a fate he was eager to follow. MINT★ do i look like xara to you

There were two basic rules she followed when it came to company. One, if the person pissed her off in any way, she was gone, unless they tried to follow her down and fix the situation. She'd always give someone one chance to smooth it over, on the off chance she completely misunderstood. She rarely got chased, or misunderstood, so it didn't apply that much. Two, she was gone if she no longer felt like she was needed, or welcome. Those kind of things normally only popped up when too many friends grouped together, and she became the weird outcast. Fairly common occurrence. Seeing as how Makenai didn't fall in either of those criteria, eh. What could it hurt?
She tapped the air in front of her, the player interface appearing. A quick party invite would like them together temporarily. "Got it." Being able to see his health bar helped. It looked full, which was good. She didn't have any items on her yet, either, and using a precious potion to restore someone's health so early didn't appeal to her greatly.
"So..." Walking along beside him, she tried to start up the same basic conversation she heard from so many other people in the world. "Why're you here? Big fan of gaming?"
Understandably, it was the most popular reply. Some people were panicked, others were thrilled. Where did he fall in it all? MAKENAI★ is that a trick question such a pretty xara

Avoiding wolves and foxes? Best idea at the moment. Makenai accepted the party invite and glanced over at Mint. Good, she didn't look like she'd been hurt by the wolves, which meant he wouldn't have to take care of her. Hell, he was barely in a position to take care of himself right now. There was only so far he could get with throwing rocks, after all.
The question made him snort in the back of his throat. "Not even close. I don't like these games, really," he said, looking around as they walked. Not seeing any sense in hiding it, since it was going to come out anyway, he simply shrugged. "Tae-chan-- my daughter, I mean, begged me for a copy of it. I got one for her on the condition that I checked it out first. I mean, I guess it's lucky I did. Otherwise she'd be the one stuck here."
He cleared his throat before shaking his head. "What about you? Avid gamer?" MINT★ this place sucks, needs more booze

...shit, he had a kid? How old was he? He looked a bit older than she did, yeah, but old enough to be popping out babies? Err, making a woman pop out a baby? Eesh! ...though, she didn't think she'd ever be ready for that sort of thing herself, so it tended to paint her outlook of it for everyone else. No one was old enough for that. It was a scary, horrifying thing, and kids were going to be a handful. Just another thing to try to avoid like her life depended on it. It might! People died during that sort of thing!
"I like games, yeah. Can't call myself an avid gamer or anything. More like a person who can appreciate a good survival horror or casual thing. Mario's more up my alley than any sort of RPG. I know the basics of these games well enough that it interested me, mostly because of what it is. I mean, if you look at it one way, this is an entirely different world. That's exciting, period."
It just happened to have something very, very bad happen to it, and the company that created it would probably go bankrupt because of it. Blergh, and the government was probably trying to help people find a way out. She could hope. It had only been a few days.
"Like, most places, you get a weapon in the beginning. Not here. There should be. Or a skill. Or something. This game isn't doing any hand holding whatsoever." MAKENAI★ raid the inn for whatever alcohol they have *fistshake*

Exciting? Yeah, he guessed so. To younger people, maybe. To him personally? ...well, he would have been all over this in his youth, so he couldn't really judge the people who were interested in it right now. Still, coded in or not, pain was still pain. Bleh.
"We've got a basic attack," he said with a shrug. He wondered if the rock throwing thing had counted. "I mean, so there's that, anyway. But I can't help thinking that this game's not doing any hand-holding because it was coded by assholes. I mean, seriously, not even letting us log out? What the fuck's up with that?"
He groaned under his breath and finished climbing to the top of a hill to look around. He could see the town just a short distance away--Ornella, huh?--and turned his face up to the sky. "I wonder if any of the shops have beer," he muttered under his breath. "There has to be something good about this place." MINT★ and now drunk threads will happen
