"They don't," was the quick, pained response. "The inn serves food and drinks. They've probably got some ale, or whatever you usually find in games like this. I wonder if getting drunk works in the same way. I've had a lot of food to test out the full feeling, and it matches my normal tolerance for eating, so I'm hoping that applies to other things." Her walking and running pace was about the same, too. She hadn't done a lot of running exactly, but it was nice to know how fast she could go when she had to. Because wolves.
Sitting down on the hill at Makenai's feet, she stretched her legs out in front of her and opened her inventory. A piece of parchment and a quill with ink that magically didn't run out appeared. She started to draw the scenery she saw, trying to sketch a map of the area. Sadly, it was obvious both drawing and writing were not a strong point of hers, because when she labeled 'Ornella', it was sloppy and difficult to read.
"I know that the news said ten thousand copies of this game was released. Do you think that means there are ten thousand people in Ornella?" She looked down at the town, which looked difficult to cram so many people in. How could they all fit in the room? Game mechanics, they boggled her mind.
"What I really want to know is why the heck this is happening. If time is passing in here like it is in the real world, and it's already been days, how are people taking this news?" MAKENAI★ they're drinking buddies normally, it's all good

"If all ten thousand sold and every person who bought one logged in before it made the news, then yeah, ten thousand people. And if that's the case? It's probably made news on at least a national level in America. Probably global, since it was a world-wide release and there are people from a bunch of different countries here, judging by screen names." He had seen some really strange ones that he couldn't pronounce and hadn't been represented in any form of Japanese character set. Well, at least trying was apparently enough in this game, because they all came out of his mouth pronounced correctly.
After a moment, he sat down next to Mint. He couldn't really judge her map, because he wasn't an artist either. But writing a book about his experiences... that was a hell of an idea. He'd have to get himself some paper sometime soon as well. Probably the general store, since he thought he'd seen that on his walk around town.
"What about you?" he asked, suddenly curious and wondering just how far the reach was here. "Where are you from? I mean, in a general sense. I figure the game is logging all of that information about us anyway." MINT★ and now drunk threads will happen

"United States. Alabama, specifically. I was born in Boston and ended up moving down to a small town in the middle of nowhere, named after a silly flower. I mean, really, who names a town Bluebell? It sounds ridiculous." She made a face, shrugging. Home sweet home for people like Azure. Bit of a nightmare for someone like her, who wanted so much more than a pick up truck and a trailer.
"I graduated from high school last spring. By the time the actual ceremony rolled around, I was packed and ready to go, and I bought myself a ticket out of there. Figured... wanna see the world, right? Not gonna be able to do it as easily when I get older and have commitments, like a job and a mortgage on a house. Ended up in Europe since I always heard it was great to backpack across."
A wry smile graced her features, coupled with a soft sigh. "Yeah... things didn't turn out too well for me. I made the stupid mistake of letting myself get wrapped up in a moment that was never mine to have in the first place, and I found myself wanting things I shouldn't want, because I couldn't have them. It sucked to go back home, but what can you do about it? Maybe when I'm a bit older, I'll move overseas to Germany, or Greece, or... hell, Russia."
Thoughtfully, she finished the outline of the healer's house. "Russia isn't too cold, is it?"

"Russia is cold as hell, from what I've heard," Makenai said, laying back on the grass and putting his hands behind his head. The grass, the breeze, the rock digging into his hip, they all felt pretty real. He drew a deep breath and let his eyes fall shut.
"Sounds pretty exciting, if you ask me," he said quietly. "Never been to Europe. I'm from... well, a small town not far from Nagasaki, in southern Japan. Got married at nineteen, got divorced at twenty-two, and now I have a twelve-year-old daughter and a job and..." He trailed off before sighing, draping his arm over his forehead.
He was doing a terrible job not thinking about everything he had been determined not to think about.
"Well, in any case. I haven't done a lot of traveling. Never gotten a book deal big enough to warrant a book tour, though I used to live in Tokyo. Never go there, it's confusing as shit, even for people who were born there. It's like they just threw all the buildings together in a pile and then paved random streets between them." Japan, huh? That explained his name. Her limited knowledge of the language came mostly from the random song that someone linked her to during a chat session. 'Undefeated', or something, if she remembered right.
"A book tour would be super sweet to go on, and trust me, Tokyo's not on my list of places I ever want to go to. If I was in Japan, I think it is, uh... Osaka, that was recommended to me. Or Hokkaido. I dunno if those are the bigger parts or towns in bigger parts." She almost felt bad for not knowing more, considering her current conversational partner.
She stretched her legs before flopping backward, folding her arms underneath her head to pillow it. "That means you're like... old. Thirty plus old. Eh, you look hot for being so old. At least you've still got your looks." No denying that bit. He'd look even better in a suit. Then again, she just really liked guys in suits, period.
"There's some quests available for people. Wanna tackle one of those?" It didn't hurt to ask. Neither had much of a direction, and lacking gear hurt them too much to wander too far away. "Some of them don't have any combat. Makes it appealing." MAKENAI★ you do drive nuts DD: but you kind of have to down there

Makenai smirked slightly. "Osaka's a city near Kyoto. Hokkaido is the northern island where it's always cold as balls. Not really my kind of place, being from the south. And thirty-one isn't old." He hooked his ankles together and stifled a bit of a yawn. "I'm gonna reserve judgment on your physical appearance because you look young and, for all I know, you're jailbait."
His eyes watched a couple of clouds go by. "Those quest pay, right?" he asked, raising one hand to open his quest log and scroll down the details. Except for the one about the dungeon (fighting) and the ghost in the frozen forest (cold and boring), they didn't look so bad. Of course, the dungeon had a mystery reward, but without any skills or equipment to their name...
"Yeah, we might as well. If we do a few of those, maybe we can buy some equipment and tackle the dungeon. Gotta be something good in there if the reward's a surprise, right? Isn't that how game logic works or something?" MINT★ it's really not that bad you wuss

J... jailbait?! She was nineteen! Nineteen! That made her legal! That made it okay to sleep with people above the age of eighteen without it being some form of rape, or whatever people liked to throw in the faces of older people! It meant she could sneak in bars and drink more convincingly! ...not like that mattered, since most places in Bluebell knew her well enough and would serve her anyway. Point was, she was not jailbait at all, and he was an old man and she hoped he fell in a river.
"Lets do the one at the church first, then. Gathering eggs shouldn't be that hard." She stood up, flicking grass off her shorts and making sure none of it stained from being down too long. She hadn't been rolling around in it or anything, but still. They were a pain in the rear to get out when they wanted to be stubborn.
Besides that one, the healer house one just involved catching fish, and she could do that, no issue whatsoever. More were bound to appear... she hoped. They'd run out of basics to do super fast, if not.
"We can tackle the dungeon when we're a bit more prepared. I'd like to at least have some armor to take hits with. Offense is more my style, but I don't want to get killed for being stupid." MAKENAI★ I am just going to stop driving because everyone's crazy everywhere

Right... they were going to have to figure out what they wanted to do for class building. "I wonder if tanking is a possibility here," he wondered aloud as he rocked to his feet. "That and heavy hitting were usually my classes. I could probably handle something like that. Come on, Jailbait-chan." The way he said it was more teasing, made obvious by the smirk that had plastered itself on his lips.
Church, huh? Wasn't exactly his thing. Or anything close to it. But he could handle an imaginary church for imaginary gods, as long as no one was actually trying to convert him to anything.
And eggs wouldn't be difficult either. He opened his log again, accepted the quest, and began heading for the church that he could see in the distance. Mint's map, no matter how terribly drawn it was, would probably come in handy at some point. MINT★ ride a scooter everywhere
