It was beautiful. No matter how she looked at it, or where she looked, it was a breathtaking site, full of a radiance that she couldn't quite describe. The snow-covered trees gave away to ice crystals, floating slowly down to the ground to leave little patterns on the pristine surfaces. She almost didn't want to take another step forward, in case she disturbed the beautiful sight in front of her.
But, it was cold. Colder than she expected. She shivered, rubbing her arms with the palm of her hands. The attire available in town was fair simple, cotton and wool and fleece, tailored to each person specifically. She wondered if that was true, because while the merchant claimed so, he was an NPC programmed that way. Could what he say be believed fully?
Ah... for some reason... that was just a sad thought in her mind. The NPCs she met around town were very nice people, and thinking that they were just unaware strings of data was almost depressing. Though, what was she at the moment, if not strings of data? Her body was elsewhere. Only her mind resided inside the game. Real as anything else, yet not real at the same time. Hmm...
It was a debate without answer. Pushing it aside, she wove between two trees, and sat down in the snow at the base of them. She opened up the boxed lunch she packed for her trip, humming to herself. "At least the food tastes good." @open ★ walkin' in a winter wonderland *hums*

WHEN YOU BITE YOUR LIP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
The forest wasn't exactly where Junko had intended to go, but, well, it seemed to be a relatively safe path, and she needed to get out of the town, at least for a little while. The panic and distress of others tugged at her heartstrings a little too much, and, while she could feel for them, she needed to get her own head straight before being of any real help. Thus, she had wandered north, and was now somewhat regretting it. She didn't have any cold-weather equipment - or any equipment really - and she had never been the best at cold. She breathed into her palms, and rubbed them together, working some warmth into them.
Still, despite everything, she had to marvel at the world. The crazy situation was one thing, and it was frightening and worrying, and yet... it was amazing that technology had come this far, even for someone as young as she. The scenery was real, maybe even super-real, and none of her senses picked up on anything out of place. No jagged lines, no clipping textures. Well, if they were going to be stuck in here, it might as well be pleasant to look at.
The walk had done wonders to get her away from the crowds, and the crisp air did wonders for clearing one's head. Now she was out near a wintry forest, without anything in the way of a plan. She inhaled to sigh, but stopped herself short as she caught sight of a another person out here with her. A crowd was impossible, right now, but one other person? She could manage that. She didn't look Japanese but Junko seemed to be able to understand other passersby well enough, so the translation engine must be pretty solid.
"Hello," It was said politely, as Junko approached from the side, inclining her head in a short bow. She gripped the hem of her shirt lightly, fighting the urge to turn her face aside or tug at her hair. Some habits just absolutely refused to die. Despite that nervousness, her smile, though small, was warm and genuine. "Would you mind if I sat with you?"

- Yep, I think Junko was good choice.

"Not at all, as long as the cold does not bother you." Aubade smiled back at the stranger, patting the ground. If she had brought a blanket from the inn, or had something like it in her inventory, it would be a bit more comfortable. Something to be aware of for future scenarios, she supposed, if she was going to be adjusting to her new life fully. Might as well become mindful of things like that. Though, how much could her inventory hold, really? Hmm...
Pushing those thoughts down, and still not used to people just being able to look at her hard enough to see her name, she went through with basic introductions. "My name is Aubade. How are you doing today?" Aubade, not Lycoris. Another little thing to get used to, for something she had not fully adjusted to. It was a nice mask, if nothing else. She appreciated the fact that no one in the world knew who she was.
Realizing how awkward it probably looked with her sitting in the snow, boxed lunch on lap, she let out a quiet bubble of laughter. "Ah... you are welcome to have some with me. I made sandwiches before coming out here. Chicken, bacon, ranch, to be specific. There are some grapes, apple slices, orange wedges, and crisps, too."

WHEN YOU BITE YOUR LIP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
The snow was cold to sit on, and not the most comfortable, but it was tolerable. "Aubade," Tsubakuro tested the name, to both fix it in her memory, and to ensure she hadn't misheard or misunderstood. "It is a pleasure to meet you. You can call me Tsubakuro." No hand was offered, Junko instead dipping her head again. For her part, the handle was something she was already fairly used to going by, with precious few friends she had these days knowing her as anything but that name. "Today, I am..." The smile faltered for a moment, and her expression grew distant, gaze moving out into the middle distance. "To be honest, I am still getting used to this." What 'this' was didn't need to be explained, and it covered a lot.
While it was true that she was still adjusting, things would be a lot better once other people had settled, and there wasn't such an air of confusion and panic. She paused, and looked back to Aubade, smile reestablished, if somewhat forced. "I've had worse days, and I still have my health. So I shouldn't complain." Hopefully that would quell any perception of weakness. She didn't need strangers worrying about her.
"If you wouldn't mind sharing, I'd be very grateful." Tsubakuro's tone was polite, bordering on deferential. She couldn't say for certain, but she was reasonably sure that Aubade was her elder. Then again, she knew enough about foreign cultures to know that wasn't so important everywhere else.

The female was so polite and well-mannered, it was more refreshing than she realized it would be. Considering a majority of people she had met in the game were either under a cloud of angst and emotions at the moment, or all riled up about how exciting and cool it was, seeing someone who fell in the normal range just felt a bit nice. That told more about her than it probably should, didn't it? Ah well, it was how it went.
With Tsubakuro sitting close, it didn't take much work for Aubade to move the boxed lunch to rest between them, giving the other free range. "The cooking system of the game is something I plan on getting more familiar with. There are a lot of recipes available, and it is a skill available from the beginning, making it more appealing than the others. I have yet to encounter a player that has earned an actual skill, come to think of it." Something to work toward, once she felt more confidant with her gear and whatnot.
She pressed a grape to her lips, keeping it there while she thought on it for a moment, then nodded her head a little. "It is snowing a little in Ornella, but there is so much more snow here. I have heard there are festivals programmed into the game, along with many events, and that it changes every month. It is May, and to imagine this much snow is..." She laughed, her accent coming through clearly. "Well, quite peculiar." TSUBAKURO★ I wanna see her have a boyfriend cx~

WHEN YOU BITE YOUR LIP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
The option Aubade chose, to basically ignore the drama and carry on a normal conversation was one Tsubakuro could be grateful for. She took an offered sandwich, murmuring a quiet thanks, taking a few small bites as Aubade spoke. "We've only just started, so it makes sense that none of us really know what we're doing yet." Apart from some simple clothing, they didn't really have much in the way of equipment. There were a few MMO-like aspects, like the monsters, the quests, inventories, all that, but, thus far, it almost felt as though they had been shoved into an alternate life, rather than into a game. Maybe that was a good thing, maybe not. In time, answers would be found, and people would find a way to move forward. Gamers were an eclectic bunch, but they could also be very skilled at finding out every secret a game had to offer, even without data-mining tools.
"I do want to pick up a few combat skills, but you are right. Learning how to cook seems to be a very good idea. Especially since it looks like we'll be stuck in here for a while." If it was a glitch or easily fixed problem, they'd be long ejected from the game's server. Her thoughts briefly returned to the real world, and Tsubakuro felt a little sick. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Wanting to escape those thoughts was a good part of the reason for her wanting a reprieve.
"It seems the makers of the game wanted this to be as much like a real place as possible." Tsubakuro didn't believe that the developers intended the players to become trapped. She had enough faith in people to believe someone in the team would've blown the whistle. But, as that ominous message suggested, it did seem that someone was behind it. It was chilling, and another thing Tsubakuro didn't want to dwell on at the moment. She smiled, pushing away some of those darker thoughts. "Maybe a few people would have tried to live their lives here, even if they didn't get trapped." It was a true enough observation, but her tone made it clear that it was an attempt to be a lighthearted observation.
"It's been a while since I've been to a festival. I used to go to them all the time as a kid." With the move to Tokyo, and everything else, it was something that had fallen to the wayside. She smiled again, making eye contact with Aubade. "We may be trapped here, for now, but we can try to make the most of it, right?"

"I like your attitude. Let us make the most of it together." Opening her inventory, she pulled out the strawberry lemonade she brought from the inn, and divided it in two so they would each have something to drink. If she predicted just how cold it was going to be, she would have been smart enough to make it hot chocolate instead. Alas, it was not meant to be, and the allure of creamy, milky hot chocolate would have to wait until she returned to her inn room for the night, where everything would be waiting for her. A single bed, a desk and chair, and a dresser for clothes she had yet to purchase.
"It is... the culvert, I believe?" She wrapped her hands around the drink and sipped at it. "It is somewhere I would like to explore, after I have met a few other people in the game. Going in alone sounds like it would be a terrible idea. When I do, and if you are interested, would you like to join a party with me?" She smiled, nodding her head at her own words. "Right now, safety in numbers is our greatest strength, and we will be able to fight well with a party of people. If we all use the basic attack, it is better than nothing."
Cooking, sewing, fishing, gardening--all of those were appealing in their own way. One day when she got higher ranked in the game, she wanted to look back at the first precious moments when she began, and feel proud of the choices she made. It would make a different in ways she had yet to discover.
"And who knows? Perhaps we will find something there that we cannot here. It would be helpful if the reward was some of this gear I have been hearing about." TSUBAKURO★ yeeees I will ship all the Junko pairings

WHEN YOU BITE YOUR LIP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
Tsubakuro nodded her assent to Aubade's plan, sipping at the drink gratefully. She certainly seemed to be a generous person, and welcoming of others, so Tsubakuro had nothing but a positive image of her thus far. Time would tell, but everyone needed friends, especially in times like these. There was no sense in being too picky. "It would be nice to have more than numbers on our side. But, when the time comes, I will join you." Surely it wouldn't be that hard to secure a weapon of some sort. The idea of going dungeon delving with nothing but punches, kicks, and mob strategy was hardly appealing. It wasn't as though they could stay in the starting town forever, so they needed to move forward at some point.
Tsubakuro took another sip of the drink, thoughtful. "It could also have a clue as to how that rock is meant to be moved. If we are supposed to beat the game, we'll have to be able to leave the starting region at some point." Tsubakuro shifted her gaze back out to the wintry woodland. "That, and I'd like to see more of this world." It was beautiful. Even if it was a prison, it was beautiful.
"Aubade, if you don't mind me asking, have you played many other MMOs?" She wasn't trying to separate the noobs from the rest, so to speak, but, rather, it was a question of general curiosity.

- All of them- I should actually start considering this. I'll keep an eye open on things, at least.

It was beautiful, wasn't it? Everything looked so vibrant and full of life, and it all felt real. It was hard to imagine it was a virtual fantasy world at times when everything seemed so lifelike. She sometimes thought she liked that the most, the way the air felt cleaner and tasted sweeter, the way the grass felt underneath her, the way the snow chilled her skin. All of these things were just like the way in the real world, except different. Stronger, more vibrant, Even more alive in a manner of speaking.
"I want to see more of this place as well. I like what I have seen so far, and part of me cannot help but long to see if there is an ocean. Just imagine something like a sky sanctuary, or an amazing garden, or..." She trailed off with a content sigh, biting down on a piece of fruit. One could dream until they were blue in the face. Best to get out there and actually experience it, hm?
"This is my first MMO, but it is not my first game ever. I never played much back home; I was more interested in books and movies, to be honest. My first experience with a game came from the Persona series. Persona 3, to be exact. It is a bit of an old game now, but I loved the story and the world. It is part of that which makes me want to find a summon skill." Her cheeks flushed with warmth. "To call a creature like that to battle would be wonderful. Something like Jack Frost." TSUBAKURO★ you should! and there will be more charries appearing, fufufu~

WHEN YOU BITE YOUR LIP WHEN IT MATTERS MOST
She had assumed that Aubade was a bit older than herself, but she certainly didn't look old enough be playing Playstation 2 games on release. "Are you a retro gamer, Aubade?" It was a question of genuine interest, Tsubakuro having mostly played newer games. Maybe she would go back a couple of generations one day, ignore the jagged graphics, and see what people played back in the day. That, or wait for a HD remake.
"As for myself... I think I'm going to see what kind of sword skills there are." Maybe it was to compensate for being a physically weak, and, honestly, somewhat timid person, but she always gravitated towards melee classes in RPGs. Or maybe it was just that she didn't want to follow the stereotype of girls playing ranged or support classes. She had never really thought on it that much, but, even if she didn't really have an avatar to hide behind, she still gravitated towards the idea of becoming a swordswoman. "Someone needs to take the front rank." There were still party dynamics and the like to consider. "A summoner sounds useful, though, so you should definitely look into that."
